2015: The Year of IOX expandability

2015: The Year of IOX expandability

2015 was a big year. NASA found water on Mars, the Toronto Blue Jays made the playoffs and we all argued about the color of a dress. It was also the year you took control of your maintenance program, started scoring your drivers’ safety performance, and had an even easier time keeping track of your fleet. IOX expandability was the big winner in the telematics world, and GRG/Geotab lead the way. Here’s a round-up of the features Geotab released that helped you along the way and some you may have missed.

Winter 2015

Geotab Drive HOS/DVIR app arrived on iOS

hours-of-service

Geotab Drive is now available on both AppleiOS devices and Andriod Devices. Geotab Drive is a smart Driver app for Android and iOS phones and tablets. Syncing data between the Geotab GO device and the tablet, it works in conjunction with MyGeotab software to provide Driver Vehicle Inspection Reporting and an FMCSA compliant HOS solution.

Engine Data Reports get a Makeover

fuel-consumption-tracking

Engine faults and engine measurements reports have an option to filter by any diagnostic. Previously searches were limited to diagnostics from two sources: telematics system and telematics device. Now you can search for diagnostics in other sources too. To find the name of a particular diagnostic, select one vehicle and leave the “diagnostic search” box blank to run the report for all diagnostics. If you know the name of the specific diagnostic you want, type that name into the diagnostic search box. Graph the data to visualize measurments and identify trends.

The Fuel Used and Fill-ups reports now allow you to examine a list of devices which did not meet your reports search parameters, and why. Click on the Limited Results message at the top of your report.

In the Fill-ups report, display devices which have limited diagnostic support, (such as fuel level, but not fuel used), explicitly indicate that the engine diagnostic is missing.

ProPlus Plans Announced

Active Tracking

Active Tracking

Ideally suited for first responders or any dispatcher wishing to closely monitor vehicle activity, Active Tracking is like viewing the vehicle from a traffic helicopter – able to watch live as the vehicle slows down for traffic, accelerates, stops at the side of the road, or speeds down a winding road. After some use a dispatcher will be able to tell, at a glance, if a driver is driving too fast for the road reassure a caller that the ambulance has just turned off the highway onto their street.

ProPlus Plans get Lifetime warranty

The Lifetime Warranty applies to the Geotab GO6, GO7, and later devices, that are on a ProPlus subscription at the time of failure.

GO Talk: Next Gen Driver Feedback

GO-TALK-verbal-coaching

GO TALK provides real-time spoken alerts to Drivers. Using text-to-speech, the GO TALK provides real-time feedback to drivers based on predefined rules. Any rules that the GO device uses today to alert the driver with beeps can be used with the GO TALK. Immediate feedback  to the driver, regardless of cellular coverage, includes all device-based rules:

  • Reminder for a driver to swipe their NFC fob or sticker
  • Revving over a customer-configurable threshold (i.e. 4000 RPMs)
  • Idling beyond a customer-configurable threshold
  • Speeding beyond a customer-configurable threshold
  • Approaching the maximum speed limit defined by the customer
  • “Dangerous Driving” as defined by the customer
  • Seat belt usage (if supported by the vehicle)

With the addition of Active Tracking, drivers will get near-real-time feedback (generally within 5-10 seconds) when in good coverage from MyGeotab-based rules as well.

May 2015

  • The feature preview HOS (hours of service) availability report now allows you to sort by HOS rule set
  • Engine faults and engine measurements reports have an option to filter by any diagnostic. Previously searches were limited to diagnostics from two sources: telematics system and telematics device. Now you can search for diagnostics in other sources too. To find the name of a particular diagnostic, select one vehicle and leave the "diagnostic search" box blank to run the report for all diagnostics. If you know the name of the specific diagnostic you want, type that name into the diagnostic search box. The diagnostic drop down selector will only show the top 500 diagnostics from the two most used sources, telematics system and telematics device.
  • The Fuel Used and Fill-ups reports now allow you to examine a list of devices which did not meet your reports search parameters, and why. Click on the Limited Results message at the top of your report.

  • The Fuel Tax report now allows you to filter the mileage into IFTA and non-IFTA states (Alaska, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Yukon Territory, Northwest Territory, Nunavut, and Mexico). Look at the Advanced Fuel Tax Report's "Report" or "Summary" sheets for the "Is IFTA State/Province?" field.
  • Garmin routes are optimized for smaller displays, putting the zone/stop name first.
  • Users can no longer download report templates outside of their data access scope. This means that you can add sensitive information to your custom reports, and it will remain secure.
  • “Previous 30 days” is now an added option for reports. It is time sensitive, so if it were run on June 30th at 5 PM, the report range is from May 31st at 5 PM to June 30th at 5 PM

April 2015

  • “unknown driver” is included in the drop down list of drivers for exception rules. This allows you to identify vehicles which are moving without a driver logging into the reader.

March 2015

  • Support for Imperial MPG (used in United Kingdom) added in the Fuel Usage report. Users can now select their own preference for displaying L/100 km or MPG (US or Imperial) in Options page. This option does not affect your preference for viewing distance or speeds in metric or imperial good news for those who live in a metric country but still think in MPG!
  • The registration process automatically sets the correct map view (for example, view of Europe or North America), units of measure (US or Imperial) and date/time format (mm/dd/yyyy or 01:15pm vs. 13H15) based on your location.
  • Report redirection allows reports to be emailed to an alternative recipient. This allows you to create a “trial run” of a scheduled report. You could send it to yourself to verify the reports and content and when you are satisfied schedule it to your target audience.

February 2015

  • When you hover over an asset in the “Vehicles” section, additional vehicle data is displayed (existing functionality). Engine hours has been added to the data displayed.
  • Garmin Safe Mode will be automatically activated for all Garmin units which support this feature. This limits the functionality, including locking the “text while driving” feature while the vehicle is in motion.

January 2015

  • Bing is no longer a Map Provider. If your default was Microsoft Bing, it is now Google Maps. There is no action needed on your part.
